Meet the Maker
Pretty Bird’s contemporary silver pieces are hand-crafted by me, Lee Arthur, in my home shed in North Canterbury, New Zealand. The timelessness of sterling silver, and it’s long-lasting quality make it my favourite medium to work with. I love the way sterling silver jewellery pieces can be worn daily for many years and still look as good as the day they were made. |
A love of working creatively with my hands lead to a silversmithing course at Christchurch’s Silversmith's Guild in 2006. I have since spent my time honing my technique and a signature fresh, no-fuss style. |
STERLING SILVER
Pretty Birds Jewellery is made with the following materials: Sterling silver or .925 silver - this is silver that has been mixed with another metal to give it strength as pure silver is very soft. Usually the mix is 92.5% Silver and 7.5% copper. Fine silver - this is 99% silver and is used for beads and other embellishments in some pieces. Gold-filled sterling silver - this is sterling silver that has been coated in a layer of 14K gold. It is a thicker coating than gold-plated items and lasts well. |
